Kenneth Martin, The White One, 22” x 26” x 4”, wood and mixed media, 2012
Kenneth Martin is a highly respected sculptor, wood-worker and beloved teacher. This exhibition brings Martin's sculpture and furniture together for the first time. It offers an extended look at Martin's extraordinary ability to unite metaphysics, materials and attention in the practice of making. Offhand gestures meet formal design. The surprising and quirky nestle with elegance and subtlety. Joints and gaps, both philosophical and actual, lead to unexpected discoveries with singular objects that are coherent combinations of parts.
