VisArts Arrival & Departure Procedures

In order to ensure your child’s safety and well-being, VisArts has instituted the following procedures for daily drop off and pick up. Please contact us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Please note: You can either park your car and walk your child to the VisArts front door at 155 Gibbs Street or pull up in your car and wait for VisArts staff to assist you.

Drop Off Procedure

  • Where: 155 Gibbs Street, Rockville, MD 20850 ~ this is front door at VisArts
  • When: Between the start of camp and 15 minutes after (Example: if camp starts at 8:30 am, Drop off is between 8:30 am and 8:45 am).
         —You may not drop off your child before the camp start time. If you are dropping off your child after the drop off time you must park your car and escort your child to the VisArts main office on the third floor. Children may not be dropped off at the VisArts front door unless a VisArts staff member is present to receive them ~ no exceptions! If you need to make special arrangements with the VisArts office please call 301-315-8200 ext 104
  • Who: VisArts staff will wait at the curb and escort your child upstairs to his/her first art class.

Please Note! Gibbs Street is a new street and often times will not ‘exist’ through online mapping systems and GPS locator systems. Please use the map and directions included in this packet.

Pick Up Procedure

  • Where: 155 Gibbs Street, Rockville MD 20850 ~ Same as the drop off point.
  • When: Between the end of camp and 15 minutes after (Example: if camp ends at 3:00 pm, Pick up is between 3:00 pm and 3:15 pm).
         —If you pick up your child after 3:15 pm you must park your car and come to the VisArts 3rd floor office to sign your child out of camp. VisArts will not dismiss your child to anyone other than those adults designated on the Transportation Release Form ~ no exceptions! You must notify VisArts of all carpool arrangements or changed dismissal plans in writing
  • Who: As you arrive on Gibbs Street, VisArts staff will dismiss your child to you at the front door.

Transfer Policy

You may transfer your child(ren) between any camps before camp starts

  • Up to 4 weeks transfer can before start date – $0
  • Transfers from 2-4 weeks before start date – $25
  • Transfers less then 2 weeks before start date – $50

Withdraw & Refund Policy

The Camp Refund Policy is as follows:

  • $50, non-refundable registration fee per registration
  • Up to 6 weeks before start date – 100%
  • Cancellations from 4-6 weeks before start date – 50%
  • Cancellations less then 4 weeks before start date – 0%

*If Early Registration or multi sessions discount was applied, you can only receive a credit for the amount paid.

Late Pick up

We understand that there are circumstances beyond your control that might delay pick up, but to be fair to our staff, the following late pick up policy will be enforced:

  • 15 minute grace period.
    • Example: if camp ends at 3:00 pm, the grace period would end at 3:15 pm, no penalty will be assessed.
  • After the 15-minute grace period your child will be in the extended camp room and a $5 fee will be charged for every 5 minutes thereafter.
  • Payment must be made at time of pick up.

Illness, Emergency or other Contingencies

Please notify VisArts if your child will not attend camp due to illness, emergency or other contingencies. You may leave a detailed phone message by calling the VisArts office at 301-315-8200 ext 104.

How are the children grouped?

Children are grouped by age, depending on number of enrollments in the session.

Is there a special program on the last day of the session?

Due to the breadth and scope of our art projects, we now are unable to conduct the Family Open House on the last day of the session. Students will bring home all their projects on the last day of the session or as they are completed.

What should I pack for my child and what should I leave home?

What to bring?

  • Wear play clothes and sneakers (closed toe shoes).
  • Pack water and a non-perishable lunch. If needed, your child can use a small backpack.
  • An extra shirt or shorts may be needed occasionally if an art project gets especially messy.

What NOT to bring?

  • Toys, iPods, handheld computer games or other electronic entertainment systems.
    • *** Campers will not be allowed to use any of these items during the camp day and VisArts cannot be responsible for them if they are lost. ***
  • Shoes with wheels and open toe shoes are strictly prohibited.

Do you provide transportation to and from camp?

No. Each child must be brought to the camp and checked in/out each day by either a parent or those individuals named on the Transportation Release Form. We will not allow children with anyone not named on the Transportation Release Form.

Spring Camp

Do you offer before care and extended care camp?

No. We do not offer before care or extended care for spring break camps.

How do you handle lunch?

Each camper should bring a non-perishable lunch and a drink. Due to concerns about food allergies, campers may not share food! Please do not include nut products in lunches or snacks. *If you have any questions or concerns please contact the camp director.

What does a typical camp day look like?

Camp is from 8:30 am — 3:00 pm

Each Spring Break camper rotates with his/her group through five different art activities throughout the day.

Arrival: VisArts staff will be waiting at the curb to receive your child and escort him/her upstairs to his/her first art class.

Departure: As you arrive on Gibbs Street, VisArts staff will dismiss your child to you at the front door with projects ready to load in your car.

** Parents please pack a nut free lunch and afternoon snacks.

Summer Camp

How do I drop off my child for Before Care?

There will be a sign on the front doors of the entrance directing you where to drop off you child. You may park in the front of the build in the 5 minutes loading spaces. Parents MUST escort your child to the room and sign him/her in.

Do you offer before care and extended care camp?

Yes. Before Care runs from 7:00 am — 8:15 am and Extended Care runs from 3:00 pm — 6:00 pm. Please register for this when you sign up for camp.

What kinds of Art will my child(ren) be exposed to?

Artistic Adventure campers (medium are subjects to change)

How do I pick up my child from Extended Care?

Students remaining for extended care will be in the Extended Care classroom on the third floor (Mixed Media Classroom). On designated days, campers will be outside in the Town Square fountain. A note on the door of the Administrative Office will relay where campers are on any given day. Campers will only be released for pickup to parents or those other adults who are listed on the Release form filled out at the beginning of each camp session.

Does Before Care and Extended Care provide snacks?

Before Care

No, we do not provide snacks for Before Care, but camper are welcome to bring food.

Extended Care

Yes, we will provide snacks and drinks for After Care. Snack includes an assortment of juice, water, chips, pretzels, goldfish, and fruit snacks. Campers are welcome to bring their own snacks.

Please do not include nut products in lunches or snacks.

Teen Art Institute

How does camp end?

Teen will take all work home as they finish and regular dismissal procedure will be followed. Students that are in Ceramic and Fused Glass may need to come back 10 business day after the last day of class to pick up their remaining work. Work can be available at VisArts Main Office: 155 Gibbs Street, Suite #300, Rockville, MD 20850. Please call to before you come. 301-315-8200.

How qualified are the teachers that you hire?

All of our teachers are either Montgomery County Public School art teachers or professional artists who have taught students at other venues in the DC-metro area.

How many students per group?

Classes are kept to no more than 15-20 students, depending on the class.

What does a typical camp day look like?

We expect students to arrive at Richard Montgomery High School and proceed to their classroom. A staff member will be at the camp entrance to greet and guild the students on the first day. Students should not arrive more than 15 minutes earlier than the start of class. Students begin class and work until dismissal. Students may bring a small snack and drink to class, if desired. Students who register for both the morning and afternoon sessions may remain on campus for lunch. A supervised eating area will be provided for students attending both morning and afternoon sessions. Students may leave the campus for lunch provided that parents give written permission for their student to leave.
